You can have a lot of fun with sails and kites, you can use 'em with all types of boards and terrain, all year round. I thought that that most creative way of using a kite was with a bike. But recently I saw another cool "sport" that is growing in popularity in places where winter prevails most of the year ( Canada, US Midwest, Finland...) .
Part snowboard/part windsurfer, Snowfer extends windsurfing seasons, and makes snowboarding so much fun without mountains and chairlifts.
Looking at Snowfer, I wish I'd tried it before windsurfing, because to me, it looks like the learning curve is much shorter since it's much easier to get back on your feet after you fall down in the snow.
If you are a windsurfer, you probably have all the equipment needed to sail on Snowfer. At first glance the board looks just like a regular snowboard/windsurfer, but at the same time, it's quite different in it’s design, construction and riding technique.
Since I haven't had a chance to try it out, it's hard for me to tell the difference. Snowkiting and now snow windsurfing looks like a lot of fun to me ! The only problem I can see is the place to do it, and the right wind conditions ( same reason I had to give up windsurfing ).
