Why Spring Is The Best Time To Learn Skiing/Snowboarding

With warm sunny days and soft snow, spring is the best time of the year to learn how to ski or snowboard. Skiing in the springtime is an altered state. Down jackets and bulky bibs give way to vests, t-shirts and shorts. Ski areas get packed with more sun soakers that with actual skiers/boarders. Skiing becomes a pursuit of pleasure rather than a test of technique.

But it's not just the weather that makes this time of the year perfect for skiing/snowboarding. Here are a few reasons to consider spring the time to start a new hobby :

1 - It's a great time to buy your next year season pass. When you buy your next year season pass, usually you can ski/ride the remainder of the season for free. Plus, you will get extra value like discounted ( or even free ! ) tickets to other ski areas, Tubing Center, cross country/snowshoeing trails, discounts at ski area's retailers...

2 - Shorter lines... During January/February weekends are overcrowded with kids and parents taking classes. Lines at the magic carpet and beginner lifts are long, it takes forever to rent gear, and during lunch time  it's hard to find a spot to sit down and enjoy your food.

3 - Weather is perfect ! The snow base is deep, with a winter’s worth of accumulation. Bluebird days are more plentiful. And as the temperature rises, skiers seem more playful and the mountains more inviting.

4 - Softer snow. Crisp snow softens into glistening mid-morning corn snow. Softer snow will cushion those few falls you may have while skiing/riding ( it also makes snowballs easier to make so you can share them with those who laugh at you :)).

5 - Swimwear skiing ! Shorts, bikinis, bare-back...spring skiing clichés abound, but there's nothing ordinary about carving up the corn-like snow with the sun warming your exposed skin.
