2014 Goals And Achievements

“If you want to be happy, set a goal that commands your thoughts, liberates your energy, and inspires your hope.” - Andrew Carnegie

Feeling good about the future is important for our happiness. We all need goals to motivate us and these need to be challenging enough to excite us, but also achievable. If we try to attempt the impossible this brings unnecessary stress. Choosing ambitious but realistic goals gives our lives direction and brings a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction when we achieve them.

If you are still not convinced about the power of goal setting, and think that it's all big hype, let this blog ( and this post in particular ) be the proof you're looking for.

I've been setting goals ( and achieving them ! ) for the past 4 years. In this post last year, I wrote what I wanted to achieve in 2014. Now lets go over some of the goals that I did manage to achieve :

- I did more kiteboarding, and got to try land boarding for the first time !

- I went surfing almost every month, AND introduced my son to the joy of this incredible sport !

- Went hut-to-hut xc ( cross country ) skiing at Mt Rainier National Park

- Finally (!!!) got to climb and ski Mt Adams !

- Got to try fly fishing !

- Bought my first sport bike, AND taught my son how to ride both street and dirt bikes !

- Learned water start, and did more windsurfing

- Finally visited ( and had tons of fun ! ) the San Juan Islands

Just like 2013, this year was very long, and very hard. Looking at the goals I set up for myself last year, and what I've achieved, it doesn't look very impressive. But I believe that as long as you keep growing, trying, pushing forward, if you are progressing personally, professionally, emotionally, spiritually—you will be happy. It is only in stagnation that we wilt like a flower.

Also, when it comes to adventure travel, I've realized that some activities/trips take time, money, preparation, and skills.  Others ( like static skydiving ) take courage ( which, I have to admit, I didn't find...well, not yet :)).

Though I didn't get to try some adventures that I planned last year, I had a great time introducing my son to some of my favorite activities. Seeing my son share the same passion for adventure travel and outdoors was probably the highlight of the entire year, and my biggest achievement !

Traveling remains my big priority, but as Bill Hicks once said : " It's all about money, not freedom. If you think you're free, try going somewhere without money, okay?".

What it means is that I still have to find the way to become financially independent. Creating a business model that is automated, diversified, and location independent is still my #1 goal.

As Zig Zigler said : "Money isn't the most important thing in life, but it's reasonably close to oxygen on the 'gotta have it' scale."
May be money can't buy happiness, but it can buy you amazing trips, outdoor gear, and plenty of free time to spend with your loved ones doing what you're passionate about.

Though, I might not have achieved all my goals I set out for myself last year, I know, that eventually, I will ! The world was not created in one day. It takes time to get ahead. If it doesn't work out, I'll try again next year.

It's been 4 years (!!!) since I created my Bucket List, started writing down my goals, and made them public to keep myself accountable !
