Getting Started In Dirt Bike Riding

Dirt biking for beginners

Dirt biking is a sport in which both children and adults drive lightweight motorbikes over an oval track filled with jumps and turns. It's often labeled as an extreme sport... In this blog post I want to prove that dirt biking can be very safe, fun and affordable !

Here are a few tips on how to get started in dirt biking for both kids, and adults :

Kids as young as 4-5 can start dirt biking/racing ! But I'd definitely start with teaching your kid how to ride a bicycle first.

For your kid's first bike, I'd recommend to start with an electric bike, like this popular Razor Dirt Rocket SX500 McGrath Electric Motocross Bike.

This bike features dual suspension and riser handlebars, large pneumatic knobby tires, retractable kickstand, and hand operated dual disc brakes. With weight limits of up to 175 pounds, this bike would be a great beginner dirt bike for kids 14 y.o, and up !

My son started with Razor MX 350 when he was 5 y.o, and it took him a couple of months to get bored with it. But the bike was good practice, and very safe.

But if you don't want to waste your money on an electric dirt bike, then go with a cheap 49cc dirt bike like this XtremepowerUS 49CC 2-Stroke Gas Power Mini Pocket Dirt Bike

Automatic transmission makes this bike easy to ride for kids, 49cc 2-stroke engine provides a strong kick out of this bike, and strong front and rear disk brake allows maximum control over the bike whenever needed.

To save $$$, we bought a similar 50cc 2 stroke bike on Craigslist for just $150 (!)

If you're an adult trying to get into dirt biking ( or motorcycle riding in general ), I'd definitely recommend to take a motorcycle safety class !

Not only will you learn how to ride a motorcycle, but you'll also get "motorcycle endorsement" that would come in handy when you try to rent a motorcycle ( dirt bike or any other ).

As for buying your first dirt bike, I'd go with a cheap Chinese like this 125cc Apollo DB-X18 125cc Dirt Bike ( for just $720 !! ), or 250cc one for $1642

JUST KEEP IN MIND...

You'll get what you paid for !

Those bikes are great starter bikes, but they won't last forever !

Also, the above mentioned bikes are trail bikes, NOT motocross ones ( they're heavy, slow, and not very durable ).

Don't want to go through the hassle of taking classes, and shopping for bikes ?
