My Bucket List : 2017 Achievements & 2018 Goals

No comments:

"What you GET by achieving your goals is not as important as what you BECOME by achieving your goals" ~ Henry David Thoreau

Maybe I'm getting too old, by it seems like 2017 has flown by so fast I didn't have time to really notice it.

In 2016, I made a decision to spend more time on my businesses rather than on my adventures...
But the best part of running your own fitness & travel business is that you DON'T HAVE TO COMPROMISE !

As you might know, another one of my favorite quotes is : "Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life" ~ Confucius

And that's exactly how 2017 was ! I didn't work a single day !

Have Trouble Sleeping ? Go Camping !

No comments:

how to sleep better

Modern life disrupts our sleep through exposure to electric light and reduced access to sunlight.

For those who have trouble sleeping, researchers say that one week of camping, without electronics, resets our biological body clock and synchronizes our melatonin hormones with sunrise and sunset. ( this story was originally published by Inside Science News Service.)

Scientists at the University of Colorado Boulder found that if you live by the sun's schedule, you are more likely to go to bed at least an hour earlier, wake up an hour earlier, and be less groggy, because your internal clock and external reality are more in sync. The sun adjusts your clock to what may be its natural state, undoing the influence of light bulbs.

The disconnect between the outside environment and sleep is one reason why even native Alaskans have problems sleeping in the almost endless days of the Arctic summers, and get depressed during the long nights of winters.

And if camping isn't quite your cup of tea, the team suggests getting as much sunlight as feasibly possible, perhaps even starting your day off with a walk outside.

Why Unhealthy And Overweight People Are More Likely To Be Poor ?

No comments:
Ever heard the expression : " Health Is The Biggest Wealth ? "

Have you noticed that healthy, fit people tend to be more positive, confident, more successful, and happier in general ?

On the other side, numerous studies show that low-income children and adults are far more likely to be overweight than those of greater means. And the statistical distribution fits a nice, neat curve – as income falls, the rate of obesity rises.

The primary reason that lower-income people are more overweight is because the unhealthiest and most fattening foods are the cheapest. If you were broke and had just three dollars to spend on food today, would you buy a head of broccoli or a Super Value Meal with French fries, a cheeseburger and a Coke?

Why Exercise In The Morning ?

No comments:
I love exercising first thing in the morning when my brain is still half asleep, and doesn't interfere with my decision making.

Studies have shown that exercise significantly increases mental acuity—a benefit that lasts four to ten hours after your workout ends. Exercising in the a.m. means you get to harness that brainpower, instead of wasting it while you’re snoozing.

When you exercise at about the same time every morning—especially if you wake up regularly at about the same time—you’re regulating your body's endocrine system and circadian rhythms. Your body learns that you do the same thing just about every day, and it begins to prepare for waking and exercise several hours before you actually open your eyes.

From fitness point of view, exercising early in the morning "jump starts" your metabolism, keeping it elevated for hours, sometimes for up to 24 hours! As a result, you’ll be burning more calories all day long—just because you exercised in the morning.

What Vitamin D Is, And How It Affects Your Mood

No comments:

Vitamin D is taken for granted and is assumed to be plentiful in a healthy diet. Unfortunately, very few foods naturally contain vitamin D, and only a few foods are fortified with vitamin D. This is the reason why vitamin D deficiency has become epidemic for all age groups in the United States and Europe. Vitamin D deficiency not only causes metabolic bone disease among children and adults but also may increase the risk of many common chronic diseases.

Vitamin D is required to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphate, that are in turn needed for the normal mineralisation of bone, muscle contraction, nerve conduction, and general cellular function in all cells of the body.

There are two types of vitamin D : one can be made in the skin by exposure to sunlight , and another -can be provided pre-formed in the diet.

Despite the name, vitamin D is actual not a vitamin. It’s a secesteroid which is a hormonal precursor.

Ideas For Your Spiritual Bucket List

No comments:
When we think of "Bucket List", we think of jumping out of a plane, travelling around the world, and doing things that we can only dream of.   But a "Bucket List" isn’t just about the places that you want to visit and the adventures that you want to go on. Instead, your bucket list should contain the goals that you want to attain in all the different areas of your life: personal, financial, physical and spiritual.

After all, while physical goals are fine, don't you think  there is a bigger aim to pursue?

“Everything in the future will improve, if you are making a spiritual effort now.” — Swami Sri Yukteswar

I believe that by focusing on what we most want to improve in our spiritual practice, we make space and time in our life to make these improvements. And soon, we begin to see the positive results in our lives from these efforts.

In this post, I jotted down a few ideas for my spiritual Bucket List.

Why Biking Is A Must For People With Mental Disorders

No comments:

As I previously wrote, one of the natural remedies for dealing with mental disorders ( whether its depression, bipolar, anxiety, or ADHD ) is to spend time in the great outdoors. Combined with a physical activity, it makes a tremendous impact on human's body and mind.

From my personal experience, slow paced activities such as walking or even jogging still allow your mind to continue over-thinking or focusing on the problem. While something more effective, yet, intense ( like running ) is not appropriate for everybody.

The solution ?

Find something high paced, yet physically doable that will keep your mind relaxed and worry free.
Like biking !

Revolutionary Fitness System That Improves Physical And Mental Health

No comments:

Millions of Americans are affected by mental health conditions every year. One in five Americans experienced some sort of mental illness, according to a new report from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. About 5 percent of Americans have suffered from such severe mental illness that it interfered with day-to-day school, work or family.

Mental illness is not an isolated public health problem. Cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity often co-exist with mental illness and treatment of the mental illness can reduce the effects of these disorders.

Because of the difficulty in diagnosing these mood disorders, it's important to get treated for any mood disorder, because it can affect your own quality of life -- as well as the people around you.

Biking = Happiness

Have you ever met a grumpy bicyclist?  Me neither.

Scientists are confirming what most cyclists instinctively know – that riding a bike has extraordinary effects on your body, as well as on your brain chemistry.

But you don't need science studies to know how cycling makes you feel. In my opinion, cycling can be very close to meditation.  While on my bike, time and miles pass by with not a thought in my mind.

The apparent mindlessness of pedalling can not only make us happier but also leave room for other thoughts, from the banal to the profound.

From Ex-Con To Icon : The Inspiring Story Of Kali Muscles

No comments:
If you haven't done time in jail or prison, you will never know the price of true freedom. I believe that nothing tests your strengths ( both physical and mental ) as much as being locked up 24/7

In  solitary confinement you realize there is nobody to help you but yourself.  There are two things that motivate people to make dramatic changes in their lives: inspiration or desperation. In prison it's both...

Below is an inspiring and motivational video of  Kali Muscles. The journey of a man from the streets of Oakland, through solitary confinement of San Quentin, to becoming an icon to young kids to show that your environment doesn't define you, and your past doesn't define your future.
