Land Paddling Freebord

Land paddling freebord

Freebord is a skateboard that’s been modified to ride more like a snowboard. It has two extra wheels on the center axis that spin freely, allowing you to swoop and slide around on the pavement.

Freebord was started in 1996 by Steen Strand in Palo Alto, CA while studying for his master’s in product design at Stanford University. Steen wanted to find a way to bring the snowboard ride to the street and began developing prototypes of a skateboard that could slide, drift and stop just like on snow.

He patented his design and began assembling and selling the first “Alpha” Freebords in 1997 out of his garage in San Francisco, CA. Since then, Freebords have evolved to become shorter and lighter, with bindings to hold the rider’s feet while carving and sliding.

An interesting fact :

Learn snowboarding with this snow stick from Kahuna Creations !

Paddle your way down the mountain with this snow stick from Kahuna Creations. It has a fully adjustable design to accommodate quick changes on the slopes, and the aluminum shaft promises extra durability.

KAHUNA CREATIONS SNOW STICK SNOWBOARD PADDLE

In my previous post, I wrote about Kahuna Creations' new addition to their land paddle family - Snow Stick Snowboard Paddle.

In my previous post, I wrote about Kahuna Creations' new addition to their land paddle family - Snow Stick Snowboard Paddle

While the main idea behind the snow stick was to help riders easily paddle through the flats and carve it up all over the mountain, in my opinion,  the snow paddle would be a better fit for beginner snowboarders.

While there are many cool products that help kids learn snowboarding ( like this popular safety harness from Lucky Bums ), Kahuna Creations' snow paddle is great for beginner riders of older age who're just learning the ropes.

My son is 10 y.o., and he only took 2 private snowboarding lessons before. But with the snow paddle, he was up, and riding in no time !

Using Kahuna Creations snow stick is a great way for beginners to learn how to snowboard, build confidence, and feel safe !

But if you are not a beginner, do you really need a paddle?

This is what Kahuna's marketing manager Cory McBride says about the snow stick for more advanced riders : "It's the whole paddleboard wave mentality. With the Kahuna Snow Stick, you get seriously deep carves. The stick lets you really crank on your turns till you're almost laying flat in the snow - it emphasizes your carving power by letting you push harder on your turns without losing control."

And for those of you how are hard core paddleboarders - you can easily turn your snowboard into a snow-slashing paddleboard !!

Kahuna Creations Snow Stick Snowboard Paddle will be a great addition
to your outdoor gear collection !!

Land Paddling Around Stanley Park In Vancouver B.C.

No comments:

Vancouver B.C is a very popular tourist destination, and was also named the Top Destination in Canada in TripAdvisor's 2016 Travellers' Choice awards, and was chosen as the best place to live in North America (and number five in the world) in Mercer's 2016 Quality of Living survey.

The city offers travellers both outstanding opportunities for outdoor adventure, as well as sightseeing. Framed by miles of beaches and rugged mountains, with more than 200 parks in between there is never shortage of things to do and to see.

When I first visited Vancouver in 2009, I did all the "regular touristy activities" : explored it's downtown, took a stroll on the famous Capilano Bridge, skied at Grouse Mountain,  had lunch at Granville Island's market, and got schooled at Telus World of Science.

But my most memorable experience was probably biking and hiking around Stanley Park...

Snow Paddling With Kahuna Snow Stick

1 comment:
If you've been following my blog, you know that since recently I've been pretty obsessed with land paddling.

I think it's an awesome, fun and very effective cardio and full body workout. And it wouldn't be possible without Kahuna Big Stick invented by Kahuna Creations, a Hawaiian company famous for its longboards, surfboards, and of course, the Land Paddle.

But recently they came up with a new "invention" - Kahuna Creations Snow Stick

From Kahuna Creations website :
The Kahuna Snow Grip is used for snowboarding, and can be popped on any land paddling Kahuna Stick you already have, making it a functional, interchangeable piece of year-roundequipment.
When the mountain levels out, snowboarders used to have to hop, jump, or kick off a binding just to get through the flat sections. Kahuna Snow Stick riders easily paddle through the flats and carve it up all over the mountain.
This is amazing for advanced snowboarders that want deeper carves. A Snow Stick also brings a world of entirely new possibilities in terrain parks.
This is another completely original sport by Kahuna Creations, but honestly, we can’t figure out why it hasn’t been done before. We worked with incredible engineers to create the perfect Snow Grip even in the worst snow conditions. Any snowboarder, new or advanced can appreciate the need for a Kahuna Snow Stick.

Even though we didn't have a chance to try out the Snow Grip, we had tons of fun using our Kahuna Haka with snowskates ! Read our full story here...

Electric Longboards For Fun And Commute

No comments:

Skateboarding has evolved ! Once only the toys of rowdy teenagers, skateboards have grown up alongside their riders. First in length, when longboarding became a popular outdoor activity for people of all ages. And now, in style, and performance when an electric motor was added !

With electric longboards there is no more pushing and kicking on that longboard to get you around. Electric longboard companies are now creating high-quality, technologically savvy boards that are both eco-friendly, easy to ride and feature new state-of-the-art decks, quiet electric motors with a hand remote-control !

Snowskating With Kahuna Big Stick

No comments:

A couple years, Kahuna Creations company, the brainchild of land paddling, and the innovator of land paddles, came out with their new game changing tool for snowboarding - Kahuna Creations Snow Stick !

The Innovative sk8pole Sends Land Paddling Into A New Generation !

No comments:
Why pay more to slip when you can pay less for grip !

The road grip multi-directional rubber pusher tip of the sk8pole kills the competition !

Let's face it. When it comes to land paddling it all comes down to the point of contact. Road grip and surface area convert into velocity forward. The patented sk8pole rubber pusher tip is in a class by itself. The pusher tip maintains 100% ground contact throughout the entire push motion creating maximum speed. Other tips wear out, slip, or just don't work ( can you say Kahuna Big Stick ?)

As for the shaft ? Why not go with 6061 Aluminum? Light, strong and affordable.

You can literally skate for miles without ever touching the ground with your foot. Also, the combination of kicking, pumping and sk8poling will give you a workout, and cover distances you never imagined.

Land Paddling : Which Land Paddle To Choose ?

Kahuna Creations was the original master mind/creator of a land paddle. Nowadays, there are dozens of companies that sell land paddles which makes it kind of hard to chose from.

Biking And Land Paddling Around Lake Union In Seattle

No comments:

Seattle is an outdoor lovers paradise ! Just the fact that the ( unofficial ) "symbol" of the Pacific Northwest great outdoors - REI - is located in Seattle downtown, tells how much Seattleites love playing in the great outdoors !

Seattle is one of few cities around US that offers an abundance of outdoor activities in and around its downtown, with bicycling being, perhaps, Seattleites' most favorite one.

Urban trails include shared use paths, bike lanes, signed bike routes, arterials with wide shoulders, and pedestrian pathways. And a great thing about bike lanes/trails, is that they can be used by land paddlers as well.

One of these popular bike trails is a 6 mile loop around Lake Union.

Don't Choose Paddleboarding Vs. Land Paddling, Cross-Train !

In my previous post I wrote how much easier, cheaper, and more convenient land paddling comparing to SUP/paddleboarding was. By now means I suggested that one was better than the other. As ExtraHyperActive I love them both !

As a matter of fact, I suggest you combine both of them. It’s amazing how much the two sports parallel each other.

Will Your Kids Like Land Paddling ?

No comments:

Land paddling is a fast growing board sport. And though, it hasn't gained as much popularity as SUP ( stand up paddleboarding ), there are more and more people of all ages that try this new "action sport".

Land paddling is equally fun for kids and adults. As a matter of fact, several schools in Hawaii do land paddling in gym classes.

100's of school (High School, Middle Schools and some Elementary schools) have introduced Kahuna Creations' land paddling to the students.  Students, parents, teachers and administrators love it for many reasons including:
  • "Exercising by disguise" Students love landpaddling and get a great workout.
  • Incentive. Teachers are able to use landpaddling as a reward for good behavior because the students absolutely love it.
  • Super easy for teachers to get started and begin landpaddling in school (see curriculum)
  • Safe.  Much safer than skateboarding because of the land paddle.  Landpaddling keeps the students from falling by centering themselves on the board and learning to paddle. If the student is about to fall, they are able to catch themselves with the paddle.
  • Indoor and Outdoor Use.  Great for use on an outdoor playground or safe for inside in the gymnasium or lunch room.  Floor friendly
  • Reach all students.  It is truly incredible that the boys and girls really love it.  Students that typically do not participate absolutely love land paddling.
  • Great cross training for paddleboarding and gives a great upper body workout.
Paddling with a stick provides more stability, and feel a lot more in control. It also helps students strengthen their core, build lean muscle, learn balance, and gain confidence.

Educators, schools and their families can get incredible discounts to help introduce the products into your school. For more details, check out Kahuna's article here...

Land Paddling - A Cheaper Alternative To Paddleboarding ( SUP )

No comments:

Stand up paddleboarding has exploded in its popularity withing the last 5 years. SUPs have been spotted around the globe, anywhere where there is easy access to safe waters, as well as in the surfing lineups of the world. A 2013 report called it the outdoor sporting activity with the most first-time participants of any in the United States that year.

Not many people had heard of stand-up paddleboarding until 10 years ago, when surfing star Laird Hamilton started catching gigantic waves standing on an oversized surfboard that he propelled with a long outrigger kayak paddle. But SUP, as it's known, didn't become today's hottest aquatic sport until average folks started doing it out of the surf zone.

SUP's sudden popularity is no surprise: it takes no great skills, its relatively low-key ( even your grandmother can do it ), safer than surfing, it offers a great workout, and it can be done anywhere there is a body of water.

But despite of its popularity, stand up paddleboading still remains a very niche sport for a very tight group of like-minded people.

The disadvantages of stand up paddleboarding are usually associated with, first of all, a relevantly high price of essential gear. High quality boards range from $800 to $2000. And paddle average between $100 ( for cheaper aluminum paddles ) to $300 for high tech carbon fiber ones.

Other major cons of paddleboarding include storing and transporting your board. With most boards averaging 10' feet and longer, it takes a lot of space to keep them in a garage or an apartment. Also, the weight of a board ( about 30-50 lbs ) makes it hard and time consuming to load/unload the board on your car's roof rack.

Stand up paddleboarding tends to be more popular in warmer climates like Hawaii, California, Florida, but in places like Pacific Northwest, where "summer time" is about 2.5 months long, paddleboarding is a seasonal sport.

Land paddling on the other hand can be done anywhere anytime in any weather !

Considered to be a popular spin-off of stand up paddleboarding, land paddle boarding, or land stand up paddle boarding is as easy as SUP, more affordable, and provides the same fun and exciting land paddling workout !

The paddling action almost exactly simulates Stand Up Paddle Boarding, only your able to do it on land. The combination of the longboard skateboards and land paddles give you an increased feeling of stability making it accessible to a wide range of people, young and old !

Land Paddling offers a great upper body workout and intense core training combined with the thrill of riding a longboard. On the flats and gentle uphills, the force necessary to propel the board comes from your shoulders, chest, back and abs. Over time, your upper body and your core plus your legs, feet and ankles gain strength and something called proprioception (your body awareness) improves.  These changes in your muscles and your mind, carry over to everyday balance and confidence of footing.  This is a huge benefit.

Also, one of the main advantages is that it is so accessible. You can keep a land paddle and board in your car boot so wherever you are you can have a paddle, whether it’s for a couple of minutes, a full on workout or just a relaxed cruise to chill out after a hard day. Pretty much everyone has access to an area of tarmac or concrete.

As for the coast, a popular cool longboard ( like Sector 9, Arbor, or Bombora ) will cost between $150-200, and an adjustable Kahuna Big Stick from the inventor of land paddling Kahuna Creations is $78.99

Over the last couple of years, the community of land paddlers has grown, and you'll see more people on local bike trails paddling their longboards, cruising the boardwalks, or bombing down local hills.

If you've ever daydreamed about stand up paddle surfing to work, the store, around campus, or on the boardwalk, pick up a board and a paddle, and enjoy a smooth ride while getting a great workout !

Today, January 5th, we were closer to the Sun than we will be any other day this year!
When 2012 began on January 1, our planet Earth was very close to its perihelion – its closest point to the sun for the year. In 2012, Earth will be closest to the sun on Thursday, January 5 at 1 hour Universal Time (UT). Translating UT to Central Time in the United Sates, perihelion happens today, on Wednesday, January 4, at 7:00 p.m.

Don't know about you, but I was pretty stoked ! After a few days of miserable rain, seeing the sun again was exciting...though, to be fair, in Seattle, seeing the sun any day of the year is pretty exciting :)

Made me happy:)...decided to take advantage of this sunny weather to go land paddling on Interurban:
